Helen studied printed textiles at Birmingham Polytechnic. She then taught art in secondary education for 23 years in Bristol. More recently Helen completed an MA in art psychotherapy at Goldsmiths and moved to Brighton. At East Side Print she has rediscovered her love of screen printing. She also enjoys working as an art facilitator with differently abled artists.
In her artmaking Helen is interested in exploring her own experience of femininity. Her work plays with the cultural norms of the times she grew up in and her experience of being a mother to two daughters. She is interested in the language and social conditioning experienced by women and girls and how that can become internalised into our identities. Helen loves the process of screen printing, using colour, and the endless possibilities that collage offers.
