About the course

Join textile artist Deborah Manson for this one-day workshop to learn how to make beautiful natural blues and patterns on cloth using two indigo resist dye techniques: Shibori and Katazome. These two traditional Japanese textile methods can be used to create bold graphic shapes, painterly marks and repetitive patterns through folding, binding, painting, printing and dyeing cloth with Indigo. ‘Furoshiki’ is the Japanese name for a textile wrapping cloth used to wrap objects and gifts. This workshop will give you an opportunity to learn how to make a simple indigo dye vat, create a series of samples and make four wrapping cloths which can be used for gift wrapping over and over again. Cotton fabric will be provided to make small samples and four wrapping cloths each . You are welcome to bring along any other natural fabrics such as linen or silk to try if time allows: Please make sure you have pre washed the fabric. Tutor: Deborah Manson
